Somehow, the racing mode ended up being the weakest part of the game. Combine the crazy shortcut-filled tracks with 4 player support and the signature over-the-top physics engine of Rush, and you've got a pretty fun racer. All 6 contain many insane shortcuts that either cut through secret areas, fling you far into the sky, or let you drive through a Hot-Wheels kind of loop-de-loop, then spills you back onto the track. In racing mode you get 6 tracks, all based on a futuristic version of (you guessed it) San Francisco. Then there is the third mode, stunt mode. In Rush: 2049, not only can you race through the streets of San Francisco, but you can also take part in a 4 car death match similar to Twisted Metal. Luckily, Midway has given us 3 games in one package.
Decent, but probably not worth buying except to the racing fanatic. If it were only a racer, it would be a decent racer. San Fransisco Rush: 2049 is an arcade-style racer, first and foremost. It's no Gran Turismo, but then it wasn't meant to be.

The Rush series is an underappreciated one. AWESOME SINGLE PLAYER MODE AS WELL.PLUS THIS GAME HAS GREAT GRAPHICS TOO! IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO OWN THIS FOR UNDER $25 ON DREAMCAST YOU GOT A STEAL! THIS GAME MAKES BURNOUT AND NEED FOR SPEED SEEM BORING! THIS TITLE WAS ALSO RELEASED FOR THE NINTENDO 64 BUT THAT VERSION IS TOTAL CRAP.IT WAS ALSO RELEASED FOR THE ORIGINAL XBOX ON MIDWAY ARCADE TREASURES 3 WHICH IS AN OK VERSION ALSO.Platforms: Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Arcade VERY GOOD PHYSICS.LOTS OF CONTROL OVER ENVIRONMENTS.YOU CAN CHANGE THE WEATHER AND INCREASE THE FOG OR EVEN PLAY THE TRACKS IN REVERSE. Not only will the streets of San Francisco be more insane than they are now, but the souped-up supercars that you strap yourself into will also be a touch on the crazy side. Rush 2049 features three different modes: Race Mode, which is a standard contest from which you can select from single racing experiences or a full circuit Stunt Mode, where you will attempt to perform high-flying and dangerous maneuvers for high scores, and Battle Mode where you can take on your friends in some destructive action. Each car has its own attributes, and you can customize the various automobiles with items such as engines and tires to alter their stats to a greater degree. There are 19 tracks of various difficulty levels and 13 cars to choose from. Rush 2049 keeps the large, shortcut-filled tracks of its predecessors and puts more emphasis on stunts, given the ability of your car to sprout wings to increase the length of jumps and the added control over the flipping and rolling which you can put your car through. The Rush series, like Midway's other racing titles, is intended to be a very arcade-like take on the art of driving, embracing the speed of the sport without having to deal with the nuance and difficulty of the real thing. It is a port of the arcade title, which was released in 1999 and became another racing game hit for Midway. San Francisco Rush 2049 is the first entry in Midway's Rush series to take place in the future.
